Scientist Ben Thomas grew up as a crabber in his family's shellfish business. He became an extremely wealthy entrepreneur by selling flocculants for various products around the world. One afternoon the fishing boats returned with an unidentifiable species of crab that glowed with neon blue bioluminescence.

As per the norm, Ben reduced the shells to chitin and made a biopolymer that showed amazing properties. He believed he had the greatest weight loss product in the world! In his enthusiasm and not wanting to wait for proper trials, Ben took some to test it out. The polymer combined with his cells which shrunk him to microscopic size for a short period of time.

Sergeant Stormwater approached Ben to financially support the team's effort and to build a surveillance robot (later known as VAX) and develop technology for fighting Ion-X. Ben created a nano-tech suit which harnessed the power of Chitrex (the new polymer Ben created from the unique neon blue crab) which reduced him to microscopic size so he could fight the influence of dissolved pollutants and nano particles in stormwater. Ben became known as Chito-Man, and Sergeant Stormwater appointed him as the STORMWATER DEFENDERS Chief Technology Officer. With Chito-Man's wealth and the nanotechnology he developed, he continues researching emerging non-visible threats to water quality.

Together with the STORMWATER DEFENDERS they fight Ion-X's destructive ways.

Chito-Crabs

Chito-Man designed these nanobots to be released in waters where emerging pollutants of concern are polluting our drinking, surface and groundwater resources. They attack pollutants that are dissolved or are so small that filters can’t remove them without support. Chito-Crabs release the Chitrex polymer and ingest the coagulated material to be captured in its onboard microfilter system. Chito-Crabs were inspired by the blue crab that started Ben Nelson’s company FloMetrix Inc. back in the late 1980’s. Charged by an ionic power system, Chito-Crabs are essential to Chito-Man’s long term ability to clean nano-sized pollution out of our stormwater.
